Orchestra Compositions by Gabriele Proy (Austria)

Ereso

for Orchestra (2010)
Arrangement for a small Orchestra (2012)

“To mark the 40th birthday of the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra I chose an excerpt from my choral composition ‘Kokoro’ that had originally been written for an 8-10 voice women’s choir a cappella (commissioned by the Munich Philharmonic Choir, world premiere on 7 December 2007 at the Allerheiligenhofkirche at the Residence in Munich, conducted by Prof. Andreas Herrmann) and arranged it for a large orchestra.

The trisyllabic name of the orchestra is a rhythmic equivalent to the Japanese word ‘Kokoro’ [heart]. My birthday present ‘Ereso’ is a reminiscence of my choral work ‘Kokoro’ that references the eponymous novel by the Japanese writer Sôseki Natsume. The survival of the RSO is a cause close not just to my heart.”

The composition “Ereso“ for orchestra by Gabriele Proy was commissioned by the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra to mark its 40th anniversary and was released by Capriccio in 2010 on the symphony orchestra’s double CD “102 Masterpieces”.

“Ereso” is dedicated to the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, its artistic director Christian Scheib and the conductor Gottfried Rabl. It celebrated its world premiere on 25 June 2010 at the Radiokulturhaus in Vienna when it was performed by the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra under Gottfried Rabl.

The version for a small orchestra was composed for the ensemble Orchesterwelt and was made possible by the award of the Composition Prize 2012 by the Austrian Ministry for Education, Art and Culture. “Ereso” in the arrangement for a small orchestra celebrated its world premiere on 8 November 2012 when it was performed by the ensemble Orchesterwelt conducted by Vladimir Kiradjiev in the Hall of the University College of Teacher Education in Baden.
